Works with Tally

VogueDesk and Tally, side by side in a boutique

Tally is accounting software, built for books, GST returns and ledgers. It is not designed to run a boutique's floor, with measurements, karigar tasks, trials and delivery dates. VogueDesk covers that shop and production side, and you can import customer ledgers and sales data from Tally as an XML file so you don't start from zero.

What Tally does well

Tally is one of the most widely used accounting tools in Indian businesses, and many boutiques and tailoring shops have it on the counter computer or with their CA. According to Tally’s own product page, TallyPrime covers bookkeeping, banking and payments, inventory, and GST work such as filing returns, GSTR-2A/2B reconciliation, e-invoices and e-way bills. Tally lists TallyPrime Silver (single user) at ₹750 a month or ₹22,500 for a lifetime licence, and Gold (multi-user) at ₹2,250 a month or ₹67,500 lifetime, before 18% GST.

If your accounts are in Tally and your CA is happy, there is no reason to change that.

What a boutique needs that accounting software doesn’t cover

Tally thinks in ledgers, vouchers and stock items. A boutique day is about other things:

  • A client’s measurements from her last blouse, and whether they have changed.
  • A bridal order with a lehenga, two blouses and a dupatta, each at a different stage.
  • Which karigar is stitching what, and how many pieces they finished this week for piece-rate pay.
  • Trial dates, alteration requests and the promised delivery date.
  • Telling the client her order is ready, and collecting the balance.

These are shop and production jobs, not accounting jobs. That’s the part VogueDesk is built for.

Importing your Tally data

Moving from Tally does not mean retyping your customer list. In Tally, export your data as an XML file and upload it in VogueDesk’s data import. The import reads:

  • Customer ledgers (for example, those under Sundry Debtors) as clients, with GSTIN, PAN, phone, email and address where present.
  • Supplier ledgers (Sundry Creditors) as vendors.
  • Sales vouchers as invoices, with item lines, HSN and CGST/SGST/IGST amounts.
  • Receipt vouchers as payments.

This is a one-time file import, not a live connection. If you keep entering sales in Tally afterwards, those new entries won’t appear in VogueDesk unless you import again. Measurements don’t live in Tally, so add those in VogueDesk, or import them from an Excel sheet saved as CSV. More details are on the import from Tally and Excel page.

Three ways shops use both

Tally for books, VogueDesk for the floor. Your CA keeps the books in Tally. You run orders, karigars and client updates in VogueDesk, and share its expense and payment reports with your accountant.

VogueDesk for billing too. Some smaller shops make their GST invoices in VogueDesk, use the GSTR reports there, and keep Tally only for year-end work.

Zoho Books instead of Tally. If you use Zoho Books, VogueDesk can connect to it directly so invoices come in as confirmed orders. See the Zoho Books integration.

For the tax side, our GST guide for boutiques explains the basics. To try the import with your own Tally file, start the 14-day Studio trial (no card needed; after it, pick a plan or stay on Free) from the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Does VogueDesk sync live with Tally?

No. VogueDesk imports Tally data from an XML export file. There is no live, two-way sync with Tally today.

What Tally data can I import into VogueDesk?

The Tally XML import reads customer ledgers (such as sundry debtors) as clients, supplier ledgers as vendors, sales vouchers as invoices and receipt vouchers as payments, including GSTIN, phone and address details where Tally has them.

Should I stop using Tally if I use VogueDesk?

Not necessarily. If your CA files returns from Tally, keep it. VogueDesk runs orders, measurements, karigars and client updates, and also makes GST invoices and GSTR reports if you want to bill from it.

Can VogueDesk make GST invoices without Tally?

Yes. VogueDesk makes GST invoices with HSN/SAC codes and CGST, SGST or IGST, and gives GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-4 reports as PDF.

Do you connect to any accounting software directly?

Yes, Zoho Books. You connect it once, and Zoho Books invoices come into VogueDesk as confirmed orders, with the due date used as the delivery date.
