For ladies tailors

For tailors who stitch blouses, suits and lehengas

A ladies tailor needs software that stores detailed measurements like bust, armhole, dart point, blouse length and slit, and remembers each client's preferences between orders. VogueDesk keeps dated measurement sets with about 30 fields per client, books trial appointments, and tracks each blouse or suit through your stitching stages.

What makes ladies tailoring different

Ladies tailoring is detail work. A blouse alone can need a dozen measurements, and two clients with the same bust size can need completely different armholes and neck depths. Many clients come back every few months, and they expect you to remember that they like a deep back, no padding and sleeves just above the elbow.

Add to this the trial. A suit or lehenga blouse often needs one fitting before the final stitch, and the fitting has to happen before the function date, not after.

Measurements that match the garments you stitch

VogueDesk stores about 30 fields per measurement set. For a ladies tailor, these are the ones that get used most:

GarmentFields you will fill most often
BlouseBlouse length, upper chest, bust, waist, shoulder, armhole, sleeve length, sleeve round, neck front, neck back, cross front, cross back, dart point
Salwar kameez / kurtiLength, bust, waist, hips, shoulder, armhole, slit, bottom length, waist-to-knee, knees, calf, ankle
LehengaWaist, hips, full skirt length, belt round, low waist, plus the blouse fields
GownGown length, bust, waist, hips, yoke
PetticoatPetticoat length, waist

Each set has a name and date, and you can set the preferred master. The notes box holds anything the fields do not, like “princess cut, hook at back”. The fields are fixed; you cannot add new ones. For how to take each one, see the blouse chart and the salwar kameez chart.

If you already have measurements in Excel, save the sheet as CSV and import it; an import analyser helps map your column names to VogueDesk fields.

Trials and fittings

Book a trial as an appointment against the client. Alterations after the trial can be tracked as requested, in progress and completed, so a small fix does not get lost. Clients can book their own fitting slot on your public booking page. More on appointment booking.

Keeping the client informed

Ladies tailoring runs on WhatsApp. VogueDesk gives every order a tracking link the client can open herself, showing how far the order has moved. If you connect your WhatsApp Business number, messages go out automatically when the order is created, ready and delivered. See order tracking for customers.

Clients who sign in to the client portal, using a magic link sent to their phone or email, can upload reference photos, which saves you from scrolling through chat to find “the design I sent last month”.

The rest of the shop

Behind the counter, the same tools as any tailoring shop apply: stages like cutting, stitching, hooks and fall-pico; assignments to karigars; piece rates; and bills with advance and balance.

Frequently asked questions

Which measurements does a ladies tailor need for a blouse?

Usually blouse length, upper chest, bust, waist, shoulder, armhole, sleeve length and round, neck front and back depth, cross front, cross back and dart point. All of these are fields in VogueDesk. Our blouse measurement chart guide explains each one.

Can I keep separate measurements for a blouse and a suit for the same client?

Yes. Each client can have several named and dated measurement sets, for example "Blouse – Oct 2026" and "Salwar suit – Aug 2026".

Can I add my own measurement fields?

No. VogueDesk uses a fixed set of about 30 fields plus a notes box. The notes box is where most tailors write design details like neck shape, padding or a back hook.

Can a client see her own measurements?

You can share a measurement set through a public link. Clients who sign in to the client portal can also see their orders and upload reference photos.

How do I remind a client about her trial?

Book the trial as an appointment in VogueDesk. Fitting, trial, pickup and consultation are all appointment types, and clients can also book themselves on your online booking page.
