Old-city markets, new-city clients
Amritsar’s traditional cloth trade sits in the walled city near the Golden Temple. Katra Jaimal Singh is the best-known market for suits, sarees and phulkari, and guides describe its lanes as full of tailors and fashion shops. Hall Bazaar nearby is known more for handicrafts, jewellery and gifts. Buyers often pick a suit piece or a phulkari dupatta here and get it stitched by a tailor they trust.
Phulkari, the Punjab embroidery of bright silk thread on cloth, is the craft most linked to the city in shoppers’ minds. Real hand phulkari takes time, and much of it is done by women working from home.
Three problems Amritsar boutiques know well
1. Embroidery that leaves the shop. A hand phulkari dupatta or a heavy suit may spend weeks with a home-based worker. In VogueDesk, that worker is a contractor. Each job has an agreed price, a send-out date and a receive date, and a job-work challan can go with it. You always know who has which piece and how much you owe. See the job-work tracker.
2. Dates that cannot move. Weddings, Karva Chauth and Teej all have a fixed day. VogueDesk gives each order a delivery date and moves every garment through your stages. The capacity calendar counts both your in-house karigars and your contractors, so a slow embroidery job is part of the plan. The dashboard shows all deliveries due in the next 30 days.
3. Clients who are not in the city. Many Amritsar families have relatives in Canada, the UK or elsewhere who order outfits for weddings back home. Every VogueDesk order has an order-tracking link the client can open anywhere. Through the client portal they can sign in with a magic link and upload reference photos. When it is ready, you can book a Shiprocket courier from the order.
Measurements that do not live in a register
Punjabi suits need fewer fields than a blouse, but they still change: a client’s kameez length for a wedding is not the same as for daily wear. VogueDesk keeps several dated measurement sets per client, each with a name, around 30 fixed fields and notes. You can set a preferred cutting master for each set. Read more on the tailor measurement app page.
WhatsApp in Gurmukhi
Connect your own WhatsApp Business number through Meta’s official platform. VogueDesk can send automatic messages when an order is created, when it is ready, when it is delivered and when a payment is received. Because you write the templates, they can be in Punjabi, for example “ਸਤ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ {client name} ਜੀ, ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਆਰਡਰ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ”. Clients who reply STOP are opted out automatically.
Billing and payments
- Advance on the order carries onto the final invoice.
- GST invoices with HSN/SAC codes, CGST/SGST or IGST for out-of-state buyers.
- Payments by cash, UPI, card, bank transfer or cheque, and online collection through Razorpay for clients paying from far away.
- Account statement per client.
How to start
VogueDesk is online, so it works the same in the old city or on the Ranjit Avenue side. Start on the Free plan or try Studio free for 14 days without a card. Plans are on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
Many of my clients live abroad. Can they see their order?
Yes. Every order has a tracking link that shows its progress, and the client portal lets clients sign in with a magic link to see orders and upload reference photos. VogueDesk can also book a pan-India courier through Shiprocket.
Can I save a client's measurements and share them?
Yes. Each client can have several dated measurement sets, such as Suit and Blouse, and a set can be shared with a public link.
How do I keep track of phulkari dupattas given to home workers?
Add each worker as a contractor, record the job with the agreed price, and mark the dupatta sent and received. Dues and payments stay in one ledger.
Can I write WhatsApp messages in Gurmukhi?
Yes. You write your own templates, so Punjabi in Gurmukhi script is fine. Meta must approve templates used to start a chat after 24 hours.
Do you have a shop or agent in Amritsar?
No. VogueDesk has no office, staff or partner in Amritsar. It is online and works from your browser.
