A textile city that still stitches by hand
Coimbatore is often called the Manchester of South India because of its textile industry. It is also home to Kovai Kora cotton, a light handloom saree with a silk-like kora warp that is recognised as a Geographical Indication. Around the old town, Oppanakara Street and Big Bazaar Street in the Town Hall area are busy cloth and garment lanes, with the T.K. Market wholesale market next door, and Cross Cut Road in Gandhipuram is known for sarees, salwars and lehengas.
The mills make cloth by the tonne, but blouses, salwars and bridal outfits are still cut and stitched for one client at a time. That is the work VogueDesk is built for.
What the busy months look like
For most Coimbatore boutiques the pressure comes in waves:
- Deepavali, when almost every family wants new clothes on the same day.
- Pongal in January, with silk and cotton sarees and the blouses that go with them.
- Wedding muhurtham dates, when one bride’s family can bring in a stack of silk saree blouses, half-sarees and kids’ pattu pavadai.
The risk is the same every time: too many blouses promised for one week.
Setting it up in VogueDesk
Think of it as three layers.
Layer 1: orders and dates. Each order holds several garments and has an order date, start date and delivery date. Garments move through your stages, for example cutting, stitching, aari work, hooks and ironing. A Gantt chart shows how orders overlap.
Layer 2: people. Each stage on each garment is assigned to a karigar. The assignments board shows every karigar only their own tasks. Each karigar can have a piece rate, and payroll multiplies it by the tasks they finish.
Layer 3: capacity. The capacity calendar adds up staff and contractor capacity and shows full days. When a client asks for a Deepavali delivery, VogueDesk can estimate a date from the current workload.
Job work done outside
Coimbatore has no shortage of small units for embroidery, aari and maggam work, dyeing or fall-pico. VogueDesk tracks them as contractors:
| What you record | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Contractor job with agreed price | No argument about the rate later |
| Sent date and received date | You know where every blouse is |
| Job-work out / in challan | Paperwork that goes with the garment |
| Contractor dues and payments | One ledger per unit |
| Contractor capacity | Their speed is part of your delivery date |
See the job-work tracker.

Frequently asked questions
Is VogueDesk a mill or garment-export ERP?
No. It is for made-to-measure work: boutiques, ladies tailors, bridal and alteration shops. It does not run spinning mills or bulk export lines.
Can I raise a delivery challan for job work?
Yes. VogueDesk has job-work out and job-work in challans, plus inter-location and client delivery challans.
Can messages go to clients in Tamil?
Yes. You write the WhatsApp templates, so Tamil is fine. Business-initiated messages after 24 hours need a Meta-approved template.
How do I pay tailors who work per blouse?
Give the karigar a piece rate in their salary structure. Each stage they mark done counts as a completed task, and payroll multiplies the two.
Does VogueDesk have an office in Coimbatore?
No. VogueDesk is online and works in Coimbatore through the browser. There is no local office or partner.
