Why delivery dates slip
Most late deliveries are not caused by lazy karigars. They happen because a date was promised at the counter without checking what was already on the workshop floor. In October every client wants her blouse before Diwali, and every bride wants her lehenga three days before the wedding. Production capacity planning puts numbers behind the date you promise.
What VogueDesk looks at
| Input | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| Stages the order needs | Your production stages, such as cutting, stitching, embroidery, finishing |
| Daily capacity per stage | Default daily rates, rates per garment type, and your team’s actual completed work |
| Backlog per stage | Garments already waiting for or passing through each stage |
| Who can do the work | Your employees and your contractors |
| Working calendar | Working days, hours, holidays, overtime and buffer days |
The default calendar is Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 20:00, with up to 2 overtime hours a day and 1 buffer day, in Indian time. Change any of it to match your shop.
How the estimate works
VogueDesk pushes the new order through your stages in order, behind the work already in each queue. A stage starts the new order once the previous stage has finished it and its own queue has cleared. Adding up those days, then fitting them onto your working calendar, gives the suggested delivery date.
It also tells you:
- The bottleneck stage, which adds the most days.
- Blocked stages, where nobody is set up to do the work, so you can fix that before taking the order.
How it works in VogueDesk
- Set up your stages and working calendar once.
- Optionally set daily rates per stage and per garment type; VogueDesk also learns from completed work.
- When booking an order, ask for a suggested delivery date.
- If the date is too late, check the bottleneck, add a karigar or send that stage to a contractor.
- Use the capacity overview and Gantt chart to watch the load over the coming weeks.
Capacity overview and Gantt chart
The capacity overview shows each stage’s capacity, backlog and bottleneck at a glance. The Gantt chart of orders shows where deliveries bunch together. Together with the dashboard’s 30-day upcoming deliveries list, you can see a heavy week coming and plan for it.
Using the estimate at the counter
When a client asks for a date, check the suggested date before you answer. If she needs it sooner, you have three honest choices: offer the suggested date, add overtime hours for the bottleneck stage, or send that stage to an outside unit. Each changes the estimate, so you can see which one actually helps before you say yes. Promising less and delivering on time builds more trust than a rushed promise.
Who it is for
- Bridal boutiques where a missed date is not an option.
- Workshops with several stages and hands, where work piles up at one stage.
- Owners who say yes to every order in the festive season and regret it later.
This builds on order management and karigar management. For non-software tips, read our guide on how to reduce delivery delays. Plans are on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
How does VogueDesk suggest a delivery date?
It takes the stages a new order needs, checks how much work is already queued at each stage and how much each stage can finish per day, then adds working days, holidays and your buffer. The result is a suggested delivery date and the stage that will slow it down most.
Where does daily capacity come from?
From your team. You can set a default daily rate for each stage and rates per garment type, and VogueDesk also learns from the work your team has actually completed. Contractors are counted too.
Can I set working days and holidays?
Yes. The working calendar has your working days, opening and closing time, holidays, overtime hours you can add when a date is tight, and buffer days added to each estimate.
What is a bottleneck stage?
The stage that adds the most days to an order because it has the most work queued or the least capacity, for example embroidery in the wedding season. Knowing it lets you add a hand or send work outside.
Can I see when an existing order will finish?
Yes. For an order already in progress, VogueDesk estimates when its remaining garments can be delivered.
