A one-person business that runs on WhatsApp
A home boutique usually means one woman, one or two machines in a spare room, and a phone full of WhatsApp chats. Clients send design screenshots, voice notes about sleeve length and “can you do it by Saturday?” messages at 11 at night. Measurements live in a diary, or worse, scattered across chats. Payments come by UPI in bits.
It works until it does not: a client from last year comes back and the diary page is missing, or two orders both promised for the same Sunday get noticed only on Friday.
What you actually need at this stage
You do not need payroll or capacity planning yet. You need three things:
- Measurements you can find. Each client gets a profile with dated measurement sets. When she comes back for Navratri, last year’s blouse measurements are there. See the measurement app.
- A delivery date on every order. Your dashboard shows what is due over the next 30 days, so you can say yes or no to a rush order honestly.
- Who has paid what. Note the advance on the order and record the balance when it comes in by UPI or cash.
Less typing on WhatsApp
Every order gets a public tracking link. Paste it in the chat once and the client can check progress herself instead of asking “ho gaya?” every day. See order tracking.
When you are ready, VogueDesk can connect your own WhatsApp Business number through Meta’s official platform and send messages automatically when an order is created, ready or delivered, and when a payment comes in. Meta’s rules mean messages sent outside a 24-hour chat window need approved templates. Read more on WhatsApp for boutiques, and note that automatic messages start on the Boutique plan (pricing).
Being honest about the Free plan
The Free plan is ₹0 and has no time limit, but it has limits:
| Free plan includes | Free plan limit |
|---|---|
| Client profiles | Unlimited |
| Measurements | Unlimited |
| Orders | 30 orders a month |
| Team | 1 login (you) |
That makes it a good way to run a small home boutique with your regular clients. Once you take more than 30 orders a month, which happens quickly in a festive season, or clients ask for GST bills, you will need Boutique. Boutique is ₹499/month + GST for 3 logins and 300 orders a month, plus GST invoicing, WhatsApp updates and appointment booking. Every new account also gets a 14-day free trial of Studio with no card. More detail on the free tailoring app page.
When home becomes a shop
The signs you are growing: you hire a helper, you send embroidery out, or clients start visiting for trials. At that point, add your helper as a team member, book trials as appointments, and track outside work as job work. Many of the features on the boutique app page start to matter.

Frequently asked questions
How do I manage a boutique from home?
Keep each client's measurements in one place, write a delivery date for every order, take an advance before cutting, and send updates on time. Our guide to starting a boutique from home covers pricing and getting clients too.
Is there free software for a home boutique?
Yes. VogueDesk's Free plan is ₹0 and covers one login and 30 orders a month, with unlimited clients, measurements, invoices and payments. It is a real plan, not a time-limited trial.
Do I need GST registration to start a boutique at home?
Not always; it depends on your turnover and where you sell, so check with a CA. If you do register, GST invoicing is part of the Boutique plan and above.
Can I send clients updates without typing every message?
Every order has a tracking link you can paste into your chat. If you connect a WhatsApp Business number through Meta's platform, VogueDesk can also send order messages automatically on the Boutique plan and above.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. VogueDesk runs in the browser on Android phones and iPhones, so there is nothing to install from a store.
