For alteration shops

Keep up with dozens of small alteration jobs a day

An alteration shop handles many small jobs with quick turnaround and low ticket sizes, so the software has to be fast to use. In VogueDesk you find or add the customer, create an order with each piece and a pickup date, mark it ready, and take payment by cash or UPI, all from a phone at the counter.

What an alteration counter is really like

An alteration shop lives on volume. Trouser hemming, taking in a kurti, shortening sleeves, fall-pico on a saree, changing a zip, fixing a blouse that someone else stitched. Most jobs are ₹50 to ₹500. Many are promised for the same evening or the next day. The counter is crowded, the customer is in a hurry, and the slip book is the only record.

The common problems are small but constant: a piece that sits finished for a week because nobody told the customer, a job marked paid that was not, and “I gave it to you on Tuesday” arguments with no record to check.

Make the counter fast

Speed matters more than anything else here, so keep it simple:

  1. Search the customer by name. Returning customers are found in seconds; new ones need only a name and phone.
  2. Create one order with each piece as its own item, for example “Trouser – hem 2 inch” and “Kurti – take in sides”, with a short description.
  3. Set the pickup date as the delivery date. The dashboard lists everything due in the next 30 days.
  4. Take payment now or at pickup. Cash, UPI or card, with partial payments shown on the order.

You can run all of this from a phone browser at the counter. See order management.

Keep jobs moving

For an alteration shop, the stages can be short, for example “received”, “in work” and “ready”. Assign a job to whichever karigar picks it up, and they mark it done on their own board. When it is ready, change the status, and if WhatsApp is connected the customer gets an automatic “order ready” message. That alone cuts down on pieces waiting on the rack. See WhatsApp for boutiques.

Know the day’s money

Low ticket sizes mean small leaks add up. Two tools help:

  • The galla, a daily cash register for cash in and out by source, so the evening count matches the day’s jobs.
  • Pending payments on the dashboard, so unpaid pickups do not quietly disappear.

If you are GST registered, invoices with SAC codes and GSTR reports are available on Boutique and above. See boutique billing.

Turning walk-ins into regulars

Alteration customers often become stitching customers. Every job builds their client profile with order history. Loyalty points on paid invoices, with bronze to platinum tiers, give a reason to come back. If you also stitch new garments, the tailoring shop page covers measurements and production in more depth.

The features that matter, in order

  1. Fast customer search and order entry from a phone
  2. Delivery dates and the 30-day deliveries list
  3. “Order ready” WhatsApp messages
  4. Galla and pending payments
  5. Simple stages and assignments
  6. Loyalty points for repeat customers

A word on plans

Be realistic: the Free plan, with one login and 30 orders a month, is only enough for a quiet counter. A busy alteration counter needs Boutique at ₹499/month + GST for 300 orders a month, or Studio at ₹999/month for unlimited orders. Every new account gets a 14-day free trial of Studio with no card. Frequently asked questions

How do alteration shops keep track of customer clothes?

Usually with a numbered slip and a register. In software, each job is an order with the customer's name, the pieces and a pickup date, so you can search by name or phone instead of hunting for the slip.

Is software worth it for low-value alteration jobs?

It helps most when you have many jobs at once. When fifty ₹100 jobs are waiting, knowing which are ready and who has paid saves money that slips through the cracks.

Can I send a WhatsApp message when the alteration is ready?

Yes. If you connect your own WhatsApp Business number, VogueDesk sends an "order ready" message automatically when you mark the order ready.

Can I track alterations for clothes I stitched myself?

Yes. VogueDesk tracks alterations as requested, in progress or completed, which suits fixes after a trial or after delivery.

Which plan does an alteration shop need?

The Free plan allows one login and 30 orders a month, so it only suits a quiet alteration counter. Boutique at ₹499/month + GST covers 300 orders a month, and Studio at ₹999/month has unlimited orders.
